Beth Bradburn contributed a chapter to
The Emergence of Mind: Representations of Consciousness in Narrative Discourse in English, edited by David Herman and now available from the University of Nebraska Press. The volume analyzes strategies for representing consciousness in narrative from 700 to the present. Bradburn's chapter,
1620-1700: Mind on the Move, shows how four seventeenth-century narratives build on the metaphorical projection of mental processes as movements in space.
